meant for the very wealthy of america, the very wealthy tax filers so that they were not taking full advantage of too many deductions and credits. the problem is there was never indexed for inflation so each year, congress those pass an exemption so therefore it protects middle class families. but it's part of the entire fiscal cliff negotiation, nothing has been passed. so we are looking at maybe 30 million americans, 30 million to 100 americans that could be deeply impacted by the time springtime rolls around. >> what about other tax cities in understand there's three other taxes we could get hit with. what are they? >> talking to steven moore about t you clearly -- the federal income tax, your going to see a -- we are going to revert back to the 2000 tax schedule you so the top tax rate will bounce up to 39.6%. then you look at the dividend tax rate. right now, it's at 15% it can jump as high as 43%. capital gains taxes from 15% up to 20%. so, you could see that the implications, the negative implications just to wall street but also to those individuals that you are living on a f

left behind. there's still about 13, 14 million people in america sill unemployed and we have the overhang of $16 trillion of debt. consumer confidence has not been very good for a long time, and we still have a high level of unemployment. first, i would say that the people who are -- who need it the most are going to be affected in a significant way because there's just no hope and opportunity for them to have any degree of confidence in the future of america if, in fact, we do not get a compromise from the republicans and the democrats. now, segmenting the rest of the population, i think that the financial community and businesses at large are in a very uncertain place waiting for some signal. you're certainly seeing that in the stock market, and i would say that the unintended consequences of every day between now and the end of the month becomes harder and harder for people to make discretionary decisions, whether it's a christmas present, a trip, an investment, all of these things are coupled with the level of uncertainty and the unintended consequences that are being pro

offices, bank of america, toyota, other companies, too. there's been a class action lawsuit filed against fedex, happened in 2011 and "the wall street journal" says it claims a worker there tried to bring the overcharging up to his superior to let them know this was happening but what's new are the court documents were unsealed this week including these e-mails and in them it shows that this worker wrote this e-mail saying he believes fedex is systematically overcharging customers for residential delivery fees. he said "i have brought this to the attention of many people and no action has been taken to address it." don? >> so don't leave me hanging. what is fedex saying about this? how are they responding? >> fedex is saying the documents they don't tell the entire story, they'll continue to defend the allegations. fedex also noting that customers who have billing issues can get refunds online or call the company. something tells me e-mails aren't going to be enough. plaintiffs will need proof they were overcharged. we'll keep following this and see how all of it plays out. >> appreciate

wrestles with the fiscal cliff, cities across america are struggling with gun violence. two firefighters shot as they rushed to fight a fire in upstate new york. they will be buried today. police say this man, william spengler, ambushed those firefighters after he set his own house on fire. >> multiple firemen down. multiple firemen shot. i am shot. i think it was an assault rifle. we have multiple firemen down with a working fire. >> the motive, unknown. spengler killed himself and left behind a suicide note. it said in part he was bent on, quote, doing what i like doing best, killing people. even though spengler was on parole for murder, he managed to get ahold of a gun and a powerful one, an assault rifle. so what to do? two communities have very different ideas. in westchester county, outside of new york city, a local paper decided to publish the names of people who have gun permits. in los angeles, the mayor has moved up a gun buyback program in an attempt to get guns off the streets. our own paul vercannon starts our coverage this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. h
